This is what we did our first day in Cairo:

Janae with kids of Shoubra widows

Me, Courtney, and Janae with the widows. We sang songs for them and then prayed individually or in groups with these women. A lot of them had arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, soreness, swollen knees, free nerve ending damage, etc. They had brought their prescriptions and lab results and kept speaking to us in Arabic, expecting to us to understand them and physically help them as “doctors”. I interacted closely with a woman who was clearly in pain and had diabetes. While she was explaining to me in Arabic, she began crying and I could barely grasp what was wrong or what may have happened. Not being able to communicate or prescribe for her illness just made me feel so helpless.

This is Austin. While we were visiting the Saint Mark’s Cave Church, he had the urgent need to use to the bathroom. And when he came out, he lost his undershirt and told us to leave the rest to our imagination.

One of the Five Trash cities. Note the multiple satelites - the people here really like to have their only channels to watch.

A supernatural miracle occurred here in 920 AD. The story is that back in the day the people of Islam and Christians were having a heated discussion about God. To get rid of the Coptics, the people of Islam hatched a plan. Following the verse, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, `Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you,” the leader of the Muslims asked the Coptics to prove the realness of God. So they fasted for 40 days, and on the 41st day, the mountain moved from its place to Mokattam, which literally means “cut up.”

El Ahmar Park overlooking Cairo. Our goal here was to approach people in a way that made them feel comfortable and just gradually reach out to people about following Christ.
