East Asia - Kai Chen (7/10/10)
Dear Friends,
Thank you for continuing to pray for our team in East Asia this summer. The following is their second update. They are doing well and getting ready to transition into the latter part of their ministry in a different city working more with the community there. The Lord is doing great and mighty things through this team. Let’s praise Him together!
Thank you for your continual prayers and support for us! Many wonderful things happened this past week, and we are excited to share with you what God has done here. We have continued to have many more opportunities to talk to people about God and have actually seen 4 people trust Christ as their personal Savior!
We are heading to our next destination in the country this Sunday, June 11, and will be sending you more updates from there. Meanwhile, please pray for the following:
- Safe trip to our next destination
- Final meet-ups and goodbyes
- Continual motivation
- The people who became Christians; that they would be able to find community and bible studies to help them grow
- The people who heard the Gospel but did not become Christians; that God will continue to work in their lives
Thank you! If you would like to know more about what happened so far, please continue reading:

This week, we were able to meet many people through English Corner, a program designed for honors English students to converse and practice their English. We have been continually meeting up with them, sharing about God and getting to know them on a deeper level. We found out that one girl, Starmie, was already a Christian and is already part of a Christian group on campus. It was extremely encouraging for us to find that God was already working here. We were able to share the Gospel with Rapidash and she became a Christian! Within 24 hours of becoming a Christian, Rapidash brought her friend to her first follow-up appointment. After we shared the Gospel with her friend, her friend decided to become a Christian as well!
We were also able to share the Gospel with Togepei. Togepei was extremely interested in God and becoming a Christian, but she said that she needed a few days to decide whether she wants to become a Christian or not. Please continue to pray for her as she makes a decision.
Through Squirtle, we were able to meet his roommates, who then introduced us to eight other friends to play basketball with. We ate dinner and played with them several times, allowing them to get to know each other through some pretty deep and spiritual conversations. The new friends were very different than many of the students we met on campus; they are like the frat boys in the US. One of the guys, Onyx, initiated a spiritual conversation with us because he was curious about “Western Christianity.” We were eventually able to explain to him the Gospel, and he became a Christian a few nights later!
We also had another encounter with two students named Pichu and Riachu, who also introduced us to their friends Horsea and Seadra. They took us to play Billiards one night, followed by dinner, and we were able to have spiritual conversations with all four of them. We ask that you think of them when you pray; we hope to use the rest of our time here to the best of our ability, through the Holy Spirit.

Please pray for:
• Simba - we met him at English corner and shared the Gospel with him. Pray that he finds answers and looks deeper into what it means to pursue God
• Snow White and Bashful – we were unable to share the Gospel with them but were able to share with her about what God means in our lives. Pray that God would continue to pursue them and soften their hearts
• Abu – he became a Christian! Pray for follow-up meetings and that God would protect him as he goes back home. He is really interested about the Bible; pray that the Bible would speak to him
• Pocahontas – she has lots of influence as a teacher and is open to western ideals. She has frustrations about the way things are in China. Pray that she would hear and know the good news.
• Mushu – we shared the Gospel with him and he seemed very open and interested. Pray for more opportunities to have spiritual conversations and that God would change his heart
• Iago, Cinderella, Pumpkin, Jasmine, Meg, Aladdin – we have shared with they and they were somewhat open to what we had to say. Pray that God will soften their hearts and they would be receptive to the good news
• Speed McQueen – he has heard the good news and has friends who talk about it, but he still believes in eastern philosophies
Simon, Wendi, Paula, Jeremy (Some Teams Are Just Born Lucky)
This week has been a very diverse week with times of discouragement but most importantly—great encouragement. Wednesday night, in spite of Kenneth and Jeremy’s weariness, we were able to share the good news to our contact Abu (mentioned above in Team JACK’s blurb) and even more amazingly, we were able to lead him to trust Christ! It was such a great honor to be used by God and to be able to witness someone we shared with enter the Kingdom.
Thank you and we will be sending you another update soon!
