Kai Chen - East Asia (7/31/10)

Hello Friends and Family,

Thank you for your continual support and prayers for our team and our work here. During our week at the English camp, we made 47 new friends, had great spiritual conversations with many of them. We were even able to share the gospel with 6 people and saw 2 people trust Christ! We are continually blessed that the Lord would allow us to experience His work in people’s lives here. In total (for our entire trip and team of 12), we have met 162 new friends, had spiritual conversations with 62 people, and have seen 6 people trust Christ. We are blessed to even had the opportunity to do follow-up work with 4 of the new believers. Praise God for all the work he has been doing!

We are leaving the country on Sunday, so please pray for safe travel and transitioning back into American culture.

Below are some stories of what’s been happening. Enjoy!

We found a lot of encouragement through one of the girls we met, Mandy. A few days after arriving in our second city, we attended an East Asian government-sponsored church. Part of their Sunday service was an invitation call, and we had invited several of our new friends to accompany us. We were really excited to see Mandy answer the call and join the group at the front, agreeing to accept Christ into her life. Throughout the week, she was able to spend some time getting to know us, witnessing us praying for each other and the love that we have in our team. Our team was blessed by her friendship and love, and she was there to see us off when we left with gifts for each of us. We have been able to see her becoming more and more open to what God has planned for her and we ask that you pray for her growth.

Also during our stay there we met a guy named Justin, who’s already a Christian. He’s a city local and he helped us a lot during our stay by providing assistance in some stressful situations, getting us around the city, and giving us good advice. Justin’s heart for God was apparent during English Camp because he was unafraid to talk about Christianity. He also shared with us about his struggle with a medical condition and his family’s response to it. It was really encouraging to see how he really matured through it and grew to have a greater appreciation for his family, while it could have been so easy for him to become bitter or frustrated from it. Hearing about that was a testament of God’s work in his life. From his time with us he was also encouraged to continue pursuing God and sharing about him with others. Please pray for him as he will be going to college next year.

Another girl, Denise, came to English camp and met us. On the first day, she felt like she wanted to open up to us. We were able to meet up with her after camp and share with her the good news. After hearing it, she became a Christian and began reading the Bible the very next day. She even brought her Bible to us later that evening to ask us some questions she had about the book of John. We can see the Holy Spirit really working in her because she has a clear understanding of the gospel and of who God is. Please continue to pray for her as she begins her journey with God.

Thank you,
Eunice (for the East Asia Summer Project Team)

On behalf of The Epic Movement, I would like to thank each one of you for standing behind these 12 men and women who stepped out in faith this summer to do His work in a place that is so out of each one of their comfort zones. It is apparent that the Lord used each one of them to leave a lasting impact in the community they were involved in. I am confident that there is so much more that took place as a result of their ministry there that we have yet to see.

Please do continue to pray for all the friends they met as we believe seeds were sown, and we know the Lord can continue to grow those seeds into something beautiful!

We know that without each one of your prayers and support, it wouldn’t have been possible for this team to do what they’ve done. I know you all are eager to have your friend and/or family member back home, so enjoy connecting back with them and hearing all the other wonderful stories they’ll have to share upon their return.

Blessings to each of you,
Carita Chen (for Epic)
